The Network

As mentioned in the homepage the network it aimed at helping everyone to learn and benefit from healthy eating, therefore they have partnerships with the government, public health, teachers, voluntary agencies, universities and high professionals.

These networks allow the partners to share opinion, skills, expertise, knowledge, good practice as well as learning together.

Teachers

The National Association of Head Teachers give members support as well as speaking for them to high figures in the system to strengthen education issues over all levels of primary, junior and secondary schools. Some of the aims of the partnership between the NAHT and the Nutrition Network of Wales are;

  • Help and support members
  • Take action on behalf of the members
  • Make sure that the right terms and conditions of service are there for all members
  • Help to guide members as well as supporting them with their responsibilities and duties
  • Giving them the right support and services that allow them to develop

    Voluntary Agencies

    Voluntary agencies provide a massive role in the promotion of healthy eating, and within the Nutrition Network there are two agencies involved these are the British Heart foundation and the South East Wales Racial Equality Council.

    The independent South East Wales Racial equality council is actually based in Newport but covers areas of Newport, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Blaenau-Gwent. They provide information as well as advice and support for the public and voluntary and community sector organisations, there main areas are focused on;

  • Work related to discrimination and harassment
  • Community work
  • Supporting other agencies providing services.

    The British Heart Foundations leading the way to fight against heart disease and circulation to try to prevent it from being the major cause of early deaths and disability. The main objectives for the BHF are;

  • Funding and promoting research for all aspects of heart disease
  • Funding and promoting for the welfare of patients and the teaching of emergency life skills as well as educating to prevent heart disease.

    Universities

    In 2003 the Institute of Food, Active Living and Nutrition was introduced to the University of Wales in Bangor. It is a partnership between all the universities in Wales that was made to make a network between them all that would promote and exchange useful resources on healthy eating. The IFANC is funded by the universities and research applications and is made up of health researches, food and agriculture researchers, chemists, psychologists etc.

    University of Wales Institute of Cardiff

    The university of Cardiff have nine different academic schools that cover a wide range of courses on nutrition, dietetics, catering and food science, they offer these is a number of forms too from a degree, part-time to Masters and PhD.
    They also carry out research with the focus on strategic and applied research; this research is closely linked with their links with industries, commerce, the community and the professions around them. This has resulted in them being one of the lead research centres as they are recognised for being a key role in supporting economic, social and cultural development in the UK as well as in Wales.
