Campaigns

Salt

A campaign called Salt Is your Food Full of It?' it is part of the third phase of their campaign to get the amount of salt in food reduced.
They had previously started a campaign in 2005 and again in 2006, these were very successful in rising aware of what the risks are of high salt content in diets. The campaign Salt Is your food Full of It? Has been set to build on the success of the previous as well as trying to change the behaviour of consumers about the food they are buying.

One of the massive risks of too much salt is that salt increases your blood pressure; this therefore makes you more at risk of developing a heart disease and having a stroke. Each year over 50,000 people died from a stroke in the UK after suffering from high blood pressures. From research it has been find out each year the average amount of salt taken in every day by an adult in the UK is about 9 grams, the FSA want to reduce this by less than 6 grams.

Scotland's healthy Living

The NHS Health Scotland have introduced a Healthy Living Campaign that is focused on giving people information, messages and skills about being healthy both in their diet and through exercise. They have set out to get this across using a number of media sources, with adverts on the TV and radio as well as in newspapers, websites and having their own website.

The campaign is also a part of the Scottish Diet Action Plan and is a joint partnership between the NHS Health Scotland and the Scottish Executive. They aim at giving individuals the help, support and information on eating healthy as well as getting enough physical activity into their lives.

Weight Wise

This nutrition scheme is ran by the British Dietetic Association who want to increase the awareness if what the benefits are of eating a balanced diet that includes getting all the varied food you need into your diet, and also maintaining a healthy and reasonable weight.

Weight Wise launched a campaign in 2006 called The Next Generation' which fairly obviously was aimed at children and teenagers aged 11-19. They had the following key messages to them;

  • Aim for a healthier size for you
  • Move more
  • Lower the amount of high calorie food and drink you have
  • Increase your fruit and vegetable intake
  • Chose better snack and take-away food
  • Make time to have a regular meal and don't skip breakfast

    Part of the campaign was working with ten cases in the UK that looked at a dietician working with a family with teenagers over a 6-8 week period to give them an idea of a healthy diet and lifestyle.
